I wish to print a selected area of my drawing, notr all of it, here is a snip from Sworks 2004 Sp4.1 help

can anyone see this command 'Print range' under File-Print?
Yes, in the Print Range box on the printing dialog, the choices (selection buttons) are "All" "Pages" and "Selection" This shows up on several printers/plotters. If you don't have these choices, the likely culprit would be the printer driver.

I've been meaning to ask this same question myself. I have an hp DeskJet
697c and when I select it as the printer the print dialog box offers up the print range region, but only the "all" option is selectable (already selected as default), the other 2 options (pages, and selection) are grayed out. I have one other printer that I would like solidworks to print a selected region, it's the acrobat pdfwriter "printer", but it also grays out the "pages" and "selection" options. both printers are setup so that solidworks is able to print out a full sheet successfully, but it doesn't let me print out a selected region.My guess is you are trying to print a part or assembly. The other Options (Pages and Selection) are only available when trying to print a drawing, and it is that way for any printer.
If you wanted to see a shaded picture of your model, then put it on a drawing, and if you highlight the view, you can click the "Shaded" or "Shaded with Edges" buttons, and they will be pretty, like you might want them. Drawings don't have to be 2D line pictures.
