Captain Kangaroo has died

Sorry, John, your memory is not what it used to be. Sky king flew a Cessna. no guns on that puppy. It was military alright, but an "Advanced Trainer".

Here is a website about the show.

However, a good percentage of the parents are "Busy People" and the most often heard comment is "Go watch TV will you." I know, I have many Nephews and Nieces and children of friends, they all use the TV as a baby sitter so they can do their own thing. For half of them that would be watching their own shows on the TV in the living room while the kids watch TV in the family/recreation room.

Actualy, Peter, if you read Charles Schultz's biography, it was:

  1. Because Beethoven was his favorite composer and he wanted to share the music with his readers. He hoped people would see the references to Beethoven and then listen to the music.

  1. Because he was an avid skater, he visited the local arena everyday and skated when ever he could. That is why skating was included prominently in the strips during the winter.

Will, You are right, I found some of those web sites, see my later posts. I remember the radio show only and I haven't been able to find any scripts from it. It may well have been another show but then anyone who remembers Sky King is too old anyway.

Sorry, no Buster Brown shoes for you!

Try over-50 or over-55. Jack Paar left TV in 1965. I would have been 2 then.

Marvelous use made of hte cardstock separators they needed between the biscuits in the box.

Now, what was it that baking soda submarine came in . . .

Apparently in the winter, Schultz froze his backyard and used the Zamboni to keep it clear.

Sure seemed like a twin Beech to me - or as I later came to know them, a C-45. But then I never followed the series.

How about Tailspin Tommy?

Was there ever a Smilin' Jack show?

Pre-TV, Will, it was a twin Beech. Unarmed, yes, although a twin Beech structure probably could have handled a 20mm.

"Zamboni mechanic" - sounds like a synonym for wanker

Checking out the SKY KING premiums I found this mentioned;

"there were line pictures of Sky King's jet airplane, the Flying Arrow, and his horse, Yellow Fury, on the side, and a full-figure ba-relief of Sky King himself on the bottom. What a premium!"

I'm thinking the radio programs were very much different from the tv programs. Wish I could find some radio scripts. The premiums were all radio by the way. As I found before there was mention of two prop planes. This is the only reference I found to a "jet"!

Interesting that the radio Sky King announcer was Mike Wallace.

So the problem is still deficient parenting, not TV as such. They could just as easily say 'go read a book, will you', but there wouldn't be people claiming that books were the root cause of all society's problems...

Still a matter of deficient parenting...

It was probably a lot easier for him to have a jet in radio days

Yep! 200 lb pilot, full tank Avgas, and weight of canon alone would more than max you out. Not to mention what it would do to your CG. Most likely move it too far forward of the limit. Great way to never get off of the runway... at least not to far. But hey, we are dealing with Hollywood where O-1 Birddogs carry Vulcan canons and 10,000 rounds of ammo. LOL
