I would recommend the D13SRP by North Coast Engineering. It's very reasonably priced, has an extra function if you need one, and has a great feature set, including silent running and lots of lighting special fx. You should be able to buy them online from Tony's Train XChange...
I'm looking for recommendations on the appropriate decoder for a Atlas Master Locomotive Series Dash 8-40BW locomotive. Atlas #7238, DCC ready (includes NMRA 8-pin plug).
I'm looking for decoders with best bang for the buck, basic features, low cost. Also looking for a source where I can buy online since I live out in the boonies far from a brick/mortar train shop!

Actually, the DH163AO is a board replacement. He needs a decoder with an
8-pin plug. The DH136P or PS is probably what you meant, right?
If you need the plug, then the DH163P or the DH163PS is the ticket. Southern Digital sells other brands of decoders as well. I just prefer Digitrax, since I have always had good performance from them. Plus I know how to easily repair them when necessary and can get parts.

I briefly spoke with Tony at TTX today... he was on the other line with someone but quickly recommended the D13SRP. I need to call him back tomorrow and make sure this one will control the ditch lights. Thanks for the info!
