Happy New Year All,Spent a thoroughly good day yesterday at the Internal Fire New Year crank-up,contemplating the majestic Tangye MLD7 andits many stablemates. Food, mulled wine and good company were abundantlyavailable.The Tangye's massive size and whisper-quiet performance are an experience togladden the heart of any of us. As manyothers did, I must have spent a good half an hour leaning on the railings andenjoying the spectacle. A lot of work wasput in to sorting the main bearings this Autumn, and it has well and truly paidoff.The weather outside for the cranker-uppers and the portable Internal Fireengines was inclement at times, but it wasnice to see that there was none of the namby-pamby nonsense of stopping enginesand sheeting them against the rain.Some model engineers were also present, and one chap showed me part of his veryinteresting collection of models ofvarious steam winding-engines from different coal-pits in the valleys.Museum work goes on apace and the turbine shed is on the way, so the Proteuspocket power station and the Austin gasturbine will be in operation soon. Also the Sulzer early diesel should be upand running before the Summer. Paulmentioned other engines in the pipeline, so there will be plenty of excuses tomake more visits. J Regards,Arthur G

It is a 4 stroke, isn't it? IIRC, only Honda have played with

180º cranks with 4 stroke vertical twins..

I have an aerial view of Tangye's Cornwall Works in 1889 which clearly shows the canal alongside the works, plus a huge three-legged lifting gantry in the yard. I assume they had a rail link after this as most later parts books list prices including carriage to the nearest railway station or docks for overseas shipment.
