After an hours battle with hammer and crowbar, I finally got into the packing crate that the Onan came in.

Sealed inside a vapour-proof foil outer cover and polythene inner, it was almost as new, even the ignition leads etc had been renewed.

Haven't got it running yet as there is no exhaust and fuel tank, but I will be collecting some Onan stuff tomorrow with exhausts included. The unit is hand or electric start, and 120/240V output, although it is supplied with 240V 13A waterproof sockets. Remote start/stop connection socket is included.

Oil drain tap is down on the lower edge of the frame, with a protecting cover. The orange leads are for the battery.

The only thing that shows any sign of wear is the carrying frame, which has a few dings.

I had one of those around 15 years ago. They do not have a fuel tank, you should have an adaptor which replaces the lid of a standard jerry can, and a lenth of pipe going to the fuel pump. The original exhaust was a small silencer on the end of a long flexible metal hose. Beware of the diaphrams in the fuel pump and the carb, these degrade and are made of unobtainium. If you ever see any grab them and keep them safe. A leaking diaphram can quickly drown the top of the engine with fuel, causing a nasty fire which is what happened to mine.

We have a couple of the jerrycan adapters somewhere, they came with some small

300W lighting sets we got from the DRMO Molesworth sales.

Spares are still available for the fuel pump etc., Cummins seems to have shaken Onan out of their stupor!

They had 2 left as of this morning, I pondered about buying them up and selling them later on, but too much hassle.

I would quite fancy one, they are a nice piece of kit, running quietly at

1500 rpm for a whole day on a jerrycan of fuel. OTOH Scotland is too far from Zummerzet, 12 hours driving and ?200 in fuel would be a bit silly.

They do carriage on a pallet for £40.

We collected ours via Mark as we are up that way regularly.
