Hornby Class 31

Hornby have been releasing trade order forms with a Class 31 diesel loco on them for production in 2004.

They've also promised to stick photos of pre-production models of -all- their planned 2004 releases on their website from Jan 1st.

If it'll be like the real thing, it'll need traction tyres!

Hmmm. Just imagine, a model of an A1A-A1A with all axle drive - it'd be just the kind of mistake for a model railway manufacturer to make, especially since we've been going on about all axle drive for so long. We'll get and and compalin that it's not prototypical, and the manufacturer will scratch their 'head' and wonder what all us modellers are on...

However, in the case of an A1A, having all axle drive and all wheel pick up on a model is a bonus, and, IMO, should be done every time.

How about a 1-Co-Co-1 with all axle drive? ;-)

Sure, why not?

How about a 4-8+8-4 with all wheel drive and pickups. On the twelve wheeled tender as well?

If it could be done, I'd say "Go for it!"

Athearn and Life- Like models of the PA/PB and GM E units all have 6 axle drive I believe, the prototypes are A!A-A!As. However I think they did have equal sized wheels. The class 31 should have smaller wheels for the centre axle so all wheel drive is going to be much trickier , or will spoil the looks. I'll wait and see. Keith Make friends in the hobby.
