Has anyone fitted DCC to the Hornby Eurostar?

Has anyone changed the motor and increased the weight?

Anyone added lights?

Anyone added more coaches to make it more like scale length?

Phil: DCC Module yes Extra coach pair - yes but since removed pending new wheels (found to derail due to an eccentric set of wheels on 1 or 2 coaches) Yes more weight might help with the extra length too 8-(

Like a quarter mile? Wouldn't fit on my layout!

It would fit on mine, though ;-)

Is it HO or OO scale?

Phil: Would you believe the answer to that question is 'both' or 'either'! It was originally released as a joint production with Joueff, and was in HO

- I've just given my brother this set. Then it was rereleased in OO scale by Hornby alone, and an extra coach-pair pack was also made available.

It is the latter OO model that is being discussed (I assume - it is the one I am referring to 8-) )

Keep trying on ebay, the .co.uk version (model railways come under 'collectables') Keith Make friends in the hobby. Visit Garratt photos for the big steam lovers.

I've added a second motor bogie in the powered car, an extra pair of Hornby centre coaches and two Hurst conversions to make it 8 cars. Just fits the new Club layout platforms.

Cheers

Mehano - they made it with 4 axle drive for Jouef and 2 axle drive for Hornby. Now you can buy it only as Mehano with 4 axle drive.

Opps, neglected to mention that the standard of printing varies depending on which manufacturers box you buy it in.

My god! Has your club got a model of Waterloo or Ashford Internatinl stations? :-)

I thought the whole point of the eurostar was that it is far too long for ordinary station platforms and that doesn't matter as the train never stops there.

Isn't the above only half a Eurostar?

So how come the set I bought, from Beatties was / is in a Lima box, c/w Lima track & transformer?

It's definately the HO version, with drive to one bogie only.

It's surplus to requirements, therefore it's for sale, but I'm not intending to visit Canada again until next summer!

Interesting! Jouef was of course owned by Lima/Rivarossi in recent years. Has your unit got a Lima or Mehano mechanisim? I wonder if Lima made their own dies or if the dies wandered between Lima and Mehano? Mehano have now produced 3 coach center extension sets so I would assume they have the dies for the end units.

Is it valuable?

I took a look at the Mehano web site and I couldn't find the Eurostar. All they had of a similar nature was these Thalys TGV thingies, with

2-car centre extension sets for them.

Opps, perhaps I'm muddling Eurostar and Thalys. Lets back-track:

- I'm certain that the Hornby HO model came from the Mehano factory, perhaps via Jouef.

- Kittle Hobby is advertising two different 3-car extension sets for one of those new fangled trainsets from Mehano.

Regards, Greg.P.

Phil: THe Mehano Thalys was/is available in Amsterdam Toy Shops as a set complete with track and scenary for about 49ukp, or separately in model shops for double that amount. (Maybe you get an interior with the separate units, not sure)
