Decoder Programing Problem

When I go to program a CV it changes the value in other CVs.

Example: If I try to program CV03 lets say to a value of 15 it changes CV02 to

15 also. What is going on?

I have a digitrax system and use all different types of Decoders.

Thanks Chris

do you have a non DCC loco on the track also?

No. The engine I am trying to program is completely isolated.

Is it on the isolated programming track or the regular running track?

Regular running track. I do have one other train on a track, but both left and right rails are isolated. I will take that engine off and give another try.

Moving it to the programming track may also help.

Problem solved. I hope.

When I was changing values I would go back to another CV # and check the value. Of course the value read the last value entry. It does not show the current value for the CV I switched to. I only read this about 10 times and just realized it.

Thanks to all for your replies for my lack of comprehension!

Chris, You may also want to look into JMRI's DecoderPro. It's free software that makes CV programming (and a bunch of other DCC stuff) a breeze:

Chris Which Booster are you using.. DB150 DCS 100 DCS 200?

The DB150 does not require a programing track. In "pg" it will broadcast on the regular rails. It can not read back cv's The DCS units require a programing track. You can do a direct programing of a specific cv on a specific decoder in "Po" paged mode. You can not read cv's in Po mode. You have to have it on your programing track to read back cv's. I made the mistake of having a DC loco on my track at time of programing and every CV got mixed up. Also try to reset the decoder to factory settings first. That sometimes will clean up any problems. I had ma decoder that would not accept a new address. It stayed at 03 always. I finally did a reset and it started to function correctly. If all else fails, It may just be a bad decoder. It is electronics and they can be bad. I had a bad DCs100 that would do funny things Good Luck Mike Mueller

Yup, many boosters don't support readback, and you mostly don't want it because it would be really slow.

I'm going to second the suggestion to get decoder pro, and a computer interface to LOCONet - I use a locobuffer II for when the layout is running, and a SPROG for running a disconnected programming track.

Not only does it make setting up decoders a snap, but it also gives you the ability to easily duplicate those settings if you have to swap decoders, and about 9 million other cool things too. *

I have the DB150.

I finally had figured out what was wrong (me) last night about 10pm. I do not know how many time that I read that there is no read back in "pg" mode. I was changing the values by so little, that the engines were acting like there was no change.

Got things straight for now.

Thanks to all

A computer interface is in the works for Christmas present for myself. I first have to replace the wife's computer and laptop. Priorities!
