Tower Hobbies ??? The Good, Bad and the Ugly...

That was probably the FedEx Ground service formerly known as RPS. I had nothing but trouble from the, so I went entirely with USPS Priority Mail. I had customers receive ARF Ballistics in 1 1/2 days across the country! Never a damaged box or part.

I've ordered from them, they have the most wonderful customer service in the world. I ordered a flight pack once and some other stuff. The pack ws missing one bag of igniters.. the customer service folks sent me another bag :))

I just looked back through my order history, and I was shocked at how much I have spent with Tower. I live in Australia and I have never had a problem.

O.K., guys -- why is it I'm skeptical about these comments? Let's see --

"A few RC items" followed by "A lot of times" etc. First off, you are always advised when you order of BO status and when expected, so why accept and then cancel?

Does this mean anytime shipping by mail the order gets lost? Come on gents, how many times have any of us even had a postcard not delivered, let alone a commercial package?

And how would you know? Never have seen an error in dealing with them for over 20 years!

And just how, pray tell, did you even know they mailed it wrong or bounced it back???

No one sends cash to Tower, so just how did you lose cash money?

As I said, I've been dealing with them for well over 20 years and have NEVER had an order screwed up.

I thought this thread looked familiar so I searched at

The original thread was started 12/17/2003. People bantered back and forth until 01/15/2004; then it got 'revived' on 11/23/2004 for some reason.

remainder of message snipped... no reason to rehash a year old issue that has been a non-issue for most who post to r.m.rc.a

Although I have not spent that much there, I have had no problems with them.

And I like that their website uses predictable urls for searching, so folks with Firefox or Maxthon, etc can build tower hobbies searches thusly:

The %s escape sequence is replace by your keywords by the browser when set up correctly.

So I type "th eclipse" for example and the browser hits tower and serves up the info.

On my cardiologists I NEVER look at my order history from any model source.

I'm in Au too and have to say I have never had a problem with Tower.

Recently I wanted a Cockpit Kit for a Sea Fury.

Price from local hobby shop $42.50, deliverable next Jan when the next shipment arrives fro wholesaler.

Price from Tower $40 Au inc air freight. Of course I bought as many other bits and pieces as I could to maximize order for given cost of freight.

I am waiting for this shipment at the moment, hope this positive post doesn't put the mocka's on me.

i've been quite happy.....total so far is about $4000 in Tamiya, Futaba, and Hitec stuff with another few hundred to Tamiya directly for parts that Tower didn't have.

interesting experiences:

  1. ordered a bunch of stuff and got everything and some HO track packages in with the order. when i called to ask them if they wanted the tracks back, they said "keep em". so i did and sold them on eBay.

  1. recently noticed that i'd been going through pinions every months. Tamiya's are aluminum. checked everything, and i mean everything, gear mesh, set up, checked for binding, damaged parts, replaced the gear box on one chassis (TA03F-S's gear box is also the motor mount) thinking it got melted (can't see how though, as i don't run a hot motor and the eletronics were checked out) and it still was a bit noisy.

then i mad a switch to Robinson steel metric pinions and now the drivetrain is errily quiet. i can hear the tires rip and grip the pavement in the corners.....the quiet runnning is also a nice change.

i swore off the Tamiya aluminum pinions and realized i'd ordered about

20 packs of the Tamiya ones so that i'd have extras (2 to a pack) and now didn't need them. they'd been on my shelf for about 8 months.

called up Tower and they said, "you can return them all if they are still in the original package and unused".

so i sent them back and got my $90 credit.

  1. i'm a Super Saver member so i get the _standard_ shipping waived if the order is over 0. weird thing is, i always get the packages faster than the 7-10 days that they always quote as transit time. can't complain about that.

the only thing that really gets me about Tower is that, when i order a can of spray paint, the site says "flamable items can not be shipped via air freight".

the weird thing is, i can go to about any other site that sells Tamiya paints for polycarbonates and get the paint sent 2 day or next day without any hassle.

why only tower? i've asked them and they never have a solid answer. other than that, i've been really happy.
