It seems every time Gunner's name comes up here, this guy can't resist a personal attack on him. Personally, I think Gunner's contributions to the newsgroup far outweigh the off-topicality of his political opinions. As others have said, just don't read them. What I object to is the way Abrasha tries to trash his character. Gunner has shown his character here for years, offering help of all kinds to us, including offers to come my house to help me solve an electrical problem I was having. Disagree with his politics if you want, but he hasn't earned the contempt that shows in Abrasha's posts. Gary Hastings
Hummm without the Americans..the Russians would likely be speaking German now also. Lend Lease was also part of the American effort, and without Lend Lease..the Russians would not had the time or materials to build up their war machine.
However..as I can tell that you are becoming uncomfortable with the realities...
Oddly enough..American Foreign policy was formed by WW2, when we unfortunatly had to assume the ever growing role of peacemaker and global policeman. If it had not been for US foreign policy during the Cold War years, you would likely be speaking Russian, or at the least, having to answer to some Apparatchik in the Norwegian Zone.
Lets be honest..prior to WW2, America was largely isolationist. And the world forced us into a different mode. If you lads were unable to play well with others...someone had to be the heavy. Seems you lads are far far ahead of the US in the genocide department alone...
American foreign policy is not very popular, because we tend to no longer allow you folks to kill each other off in job lots, or take over your neighbors. And that my friend, is the crux of the matter. The world demanded a global policeman..and they got one. If you folks dont like the way we handle the criminals..take care of them yourselves. What was the Norwegian contribution to the Bosnia situation? Need I go further?
When you lads finally learn to play well with others..then perhaps we wont have to send our lads off to die for you.

"Gun Control, the theory that a 110lb grandmother should fist fight a 250lb 19yr old criminal"
Rudyard Kipling rather well stated it.... Subsitute "America" for "Tommy"
I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o'beer, The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here." The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die, I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away"; But it's ``Thank you, Mister Atkins,'' when the band begins to play, The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play, O it's ``Thank you, Mr. Atkins,'' when the band begins to play.
I went into a theatre as sober as could be, They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me; They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls, But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside"; But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide, The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide, O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.
Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap; An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy how's yer soul?" But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll, The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll, O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.
We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too, But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you; An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints: Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind," But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind, There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind, O it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.
You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires an' all: We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational. Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!" But it's "Saviour of 'is country," when the guns begin to shoot; An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please; But Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

Now this is getting spooky, Gunner.
I've long enjoyed that piece of work. I posted in online:
Now, *will you stop* posting things I agree with, or have a similar interest in!
Sheesh! Soon I'm going to find myself drooling over handgun catalogues!

Not every time, only almost every time.
What character; the man is a fascist loony with a gun, uhm make that many guns.
Oh, and what would you call it when someone calls a person of some accomplishment (author and Academy Award winning movie director to name just a couple), like Michael Moore a "300 lb lying fat sack of s*it", if not contempt? I bet in your book, that's a compliment.
As Gunner would say with one of his so witty answers to critical posts. Your opinion is noted.

How about, 'the first amendment?'
