How Does ProE Do In Areas That SolidWorks Fails Miserably At?

Gary Knutson who is totally incapable of addressing the following:

"In particular, SolidMap would have value to me if it had stuff that is either difficult or impossible to get from SolidWorks currently:

- detail about incontext relations (sketch, feature, part, assembly)

- warnings about circular relations in assemblies

- warnings about relations to things in assemblies that require multiple rebuilds (incontext features, component patterns, etc.)

- the interface to be laid out so you can see more than a few features at a time

- option to show the feature tree in a purely history based representation (not indented and reordered for parent/child)

- identify orphan features (have no relatives in the tree, and also features with no children in the tree)

- information about inserted parts, split parts, etc.

- information about references as relating to configurations

- possibly combine Feature Statistics, since that info is already available"

In other words, you want something that you can use without putting forth any real effort (watching videos probably isn't enough). Probably not going to happen.

I don't really have any issues with the items you list and I use SW almost daily for items that range from prismatic to "swoopy" for both parts and assemblies. Seem to work just fine. Could it be better? I am sure that any software could be "improved".

With my somewhat limited (not daily) experience with UGNX, Wildfire and CatiaV5 I really don't see a whole lot of difference. They all do things somewhat differently with the same end result - a useable model/assembly and drawings (if needed). IMO, SW is the easiest to learn but that term is relative.

That help, Jonnie?

In other words, Nuts son you can't be honest about SolidWork limitations and are happy to give up having control over all the relations that SolidWorks creates. Instead of being honest you wish to pretend you have the control when nothing could be further from the truth.

Not really, it's just more of the same bullshit from you Nuts son. This is further proof that you don't really understand all the complex relations SolidWorks creates. It's also very likely that you don't have to heavily parametrically modify models and assemblies done by someone else.

How am I being dishonest? I just don't find Solidworks "taking control" over relations to be factor in my work. I am not pretending anything. I guess maybe SW just takes over and I'm along for the ride. If this is the case, the ride is pleasant (mostly). BTW, I don't find ProE to be any better or worse in this respect - just different.

If I have to "heavily parametrically modify" models and assemblies done by someone else I will either do so or remodel - whichever makes the most sense time-wise. Someone elses SW models make take some effort to figure out the construction but it certainly isn't what I would classify as difficult (remember, rollback is your friend).

Bottom line, I don't claim to be a SW "expert" but I certainly don't have any trouble getting my work done. YMMV

Most beginners quickly move beyond Brewer and don't make the idiotic mistakes Brewer often makes. He's made so many of them over the years it's hard to keep track.

If I made soooo many mistakes why do you keep posting the same thing over and over and over again and why did you have to go all the way back to 1998 to find that one instance?

Jonnie, maybe you should actually read Brewer's reply and try and make some intelligent comments instead of just your usual BS. It would be refreshing for a change to actually see you address something rather than just dancing around.

Now, do your stuff and fix my reply (like we all know you will).

SolidWorks users don't have the control needed when using SolidWorks and it's obvious that most SolidWorks users don't care about having the needed control.

"Have you ever had to edit an assembly or a part designed by someone else, or change a model you designed a long time ago? If so, you know how difficult it is to decipher the mate relationships in assemblies and dependencies between part features. That's because modern solid modeling lets users create complex relationships, without even being aware they are doing so. For example, a user might add a fillet, which generates relationships between the arc of the fillet and the features that created the edges. Editing models can thus lead to unpredictable results, such as lost design intent or features that fail when rebuilding models."
