Jeff, My WF date code is 2002490, rather old, but I've never had any reasons to update it. My license is, of course, commercial, too. I use node-locked license because I am a one-man company and therefore have no need to float my licenses over the network to share them with anybody. A node-locked license gives me an additional small benefit of avoiding an (admittedly very low) overhead of FlexLM. As I have said, I have no idea what the WLO module is. This information can probably be found somewhere on the PTC website, but my maintenance contract has expired 4 months ago, and with it my ability to access member areas of PTC website. Sometime soon, probably when the WF2 comes out, I'll be renewing my contract and will be able to research this issue. Until then, somebody else will have to do it. As soon as I open a part or create a new part in WF, the items in the submenu under 'Insert'=>''Shared Data'=> become available. This submenu contains 'From File', 'Publish Geometry', 'Copy Geometry from Other Model', 'Shrinkwrap from Other Model', 'Merge from Other Model', 'Cutout from Other Model', 'Inheritance from Other Model'. Of these items, only 'Cutout from Other Model' is greyed out. Of the available choices I personally have only used 'Copy Geometry from Other Model' to create one-part copies of the outside geometry of assemblies I've been designing jigs and fixtures for. So I am pretty sure Copy Geometry works just fine, but cannot say whether the rest are completely functional or are simply not greyed out. Maybe somebody else on this NG who uses Foundation Advantage can expand on these other functions. In the assembly mode this same submenu contains 'From File', 'Copy Geometry', 'Shrinkwrap', 'Publish Geometry', 'Copy Geometry from Other Model', 'Shrinkwrap from Other Model'. Of these items, 'Copy Geometry' and 'Shrinkwrap' are greyed out, everything else is available. Now bear in mind that in WF what is available and what is greyed out often depends on what (if anything) is selected in the graphics area. All above descriptions are for situations in which NOTHING has been selected yet. I would not be surprised if some of my greyed-out items are this way because Pro/E is waiting for me to select some geometry before it activates them. The particular 'Copy Geometry from Other Model' in my case has always been used in the same way: I would create an empty part using my template with all necessary datum planes, layers, parameters, etc., but without any geometry. Then I would copy the geometry from some assembly into this part, creating a simpler, lighter representation of this assembly.

You can boolean subtract one solid (or quilt defined volume, etc.) from another without using Cutout or Cutout from Another Model. Start with both parts registered in an assembly, toolbody first and base part second (I guess the order is important?). Activate the base part (from which you want to subtract the volume). Select a surface of the toolbody. Edit > Copy. When the command is active RMB in the graphics area and select Solid Surfaces from the context sensitive screen menu and complete the copy. Select the copied quilt. Edit > Solidify > Cut.

Is this similar in function to your use of Copy Geometry? Don't know what the drawbacks might be. I'm not very familiar with a whole lot of Pro/E's functionality and am trying to sort it out as I go.

Yes, thank you, Alex. I have tried various ways (modes, empty part, with and without solids, various entitity types pre-selected, etc.) to get the "Copy Geometry..." menu item to activate and have never been able to. I'd venture a guess that what Chris's reseller is telling him is correct and it cannot be made active without AAX, though there are other ways to copy geometry, some of which may be new with WF (?).

I see other differences .... In part mode (a single part open) I create a new, empty part, select Insert

From File... Merge from Other Model...

Part open with a solid feature in it: From File... Merge from Other Model... Cutout from Other Model... are active.

With a new, empty part active in assembly: From File... Shrinkwrap... Merge... Merge from Other Model... are active.

Part with solid featue active in assembly From File... Shrinkwrap... Merge... Cutout... Merge from Other Model... Cutout from Other Model... are active.

So, Copy Geometry from Other Model isn't available to me (nor to Chris, possibly). I have used Merge from Other Model to copy geometry for pseudo-skeleton or master model purposes. To copy geometry of assembly component(s) I use some variation of Edit > Copy, Merge or Shrinkwrap depending on intention. Strange... I guess this stuff changes from build to build?

I looked up WLO on the knowledge base. It stands for "Workstation Locked Option", so that explains it's absence in my module list.

WOW. Interesting Thread. This is made more interesting by the fact that I HAVE all of the missing options in v2001 currently installed on the same machine!

The reason why Alex had 'Insert|Shared Data|cutout from other model...' greyed out is that in a new part with no base feature, it is not possible to cutout anything.

To add more info, we have floating licences from a flex-lm server, (not node locked), but I have one licence that also has ISDX. I thought that to get ISDX you had to lock it to a particular Foundation Licence, although you could float this Foundation licence. therefore, the person who activated this particular licence of Foundation gets ISDX, the other users have to wait until this licence is free, and relaunch pro-E with this licence to get ISDX.
