We had one last year that was held without your knowledge(you were in Oshkosh). But it is usually not a problem for the president to go to a surprise launch or to be overridden on a launch he scrubbed because of wind that the other members decided were calm enough.

Yeah, that should be changing. I plan on calling in some of my own so I know how to do it. Now that you posted the info on the bullentin board on the website things should be easier. Anyways I figure your 2 years of torture(having him do everything) should end.

Well not forgotten, more like told to everyone on a continuous bases. Kind of like the stories of the rockets without parachutes(or streamer), the rocket that had a broken fin taped back together and launched, or the garbage bag that someone called a flexwing glider that crashed.

I would like to know the engine size and number of flights. I am keeping record so I can give out a reward for the most flights and most total impulse flown through the year at Mars Club Launches where at least 2 mars club members are present. And yes I am thinking on a monetary reward.

I think that this should go with any Certified flights, I know I plan on buying dinner if I make my levels that I have planned.

The reason I don't mention this often is that some of us spend so much on rockets, transportation lodgings and stuff that they may not be able to AFFORD to do so. Also keeps the free-food leeches from showing up (besides the prez)

Yes but it is such a pain for setup, and everyone hogs em. I think my attitude about this wil change when the trailer is up and running as we can store them in there along with some of the stuff.

I would have but the 4th and 5th landowners that I contacted(needed permission from all 5 to do launches, 1 to launch and 4 to be able to cross land in order to retreive rockets) would allow anybody to even cross there land on foot. seems that they had problems with snowmobilers ruining there fields in the past.

I was going to mention it at the last meeting but forgot. But havn't you noticed how I was asking what engines were being flown the last few weeks.

True, I always forget that some of the members of the club spend wayyyyy too much at the bar and that there is other things to spend your money on besides rocketry

not a chance. My van is much more useful for hauling rockets and there is enough room to have 2-3 people prep rockets and if you get tired you can always fold down the back seat into a bed.

On a different topic, Ray... I found a digital camera that ought to work as a replacement for one of my 35mm cameras. With a 32-Mb SD-memory card installed, it'll record two minutes of video of the flight.

The only inconvenience is that I have to hook in a 'keep-awake' circuit to defeat the automatic power-off features. After ten minutes of inactivity, the camera shuts itself down completely... not good if it's waiting on the pad for longer than that. Besides that... the darn SMT switches are a real *pain* to solder to... :-)

The manual says that in 'Movie Mode' the image is 320X240 pixels. That would make it about quarter-screen sized on a modern monitor. In 'Picture Mode' the resolution can be up to 1600X1200 pixels, but it requires about five seconds' of processing time between shots.

Problem is - most digital cameras I've been able to find have this feature. I was going to use a Kodak EasyShare camera, but the power-down feature couldn't be disabled or defeated, plus it would only record thirty seconds' worth of video... no matter HOW much extra memory was added. :-(

There is no attack on rocketry. Frontier Rocketry has managed after over 6 months of negotiations three years ago to get access to one of the largest fields in New England. The possession of this field has allowed NAR and Tripoli members to fly Ms. Frontier Rocketry is the first field in New England to have a Level III launch. There have been three Level III certs in an area that never had access to a field large enough to fly anything past a K. The rules have been put in place to keep the owners of the field from banning flyers. The field is expensive to use and the restrictions are in place to ensure that we hold the field. Losing the field would do harm to rocketry than some rules that really don't stop one from flying.

I am not going to explain or justify the reorganization other than to point out that the B.O.D. has covered the costs that the membership fees have not covered for over three years. This fact has never bothered any member. In fact not one member has ever offered to reimburse the B.O.D. for their out of pocket expenses. The B.O.D. has spent over 6 months negotiating to acquire the field and spends several days every year addressing issues that will could close the field down, and many more talking to surrounding owners to address issues they are concerned about in order to ensure that the field doesn't get pulled because a neighbor starts to bitch. The B.O.D. has talked to TAPS, other Prefects and NAR Presidents to come up with the current organization. Is it perfect? Hell no, but it will hold the field for rocketteers to use and see large rockets fly. Frontier has even managed to allow Experimental flights in a area watched continuously by Audubon jerks trying to close us down.

By focusing on safety, safety, safety Frontier Rocketry has won it the respect of the local police and fire marshals (we straddle two towns). We are almost never bothered because they know we are very safety conscious. Our first year we had visits continually from police and fire chiefs. The FAA likes us and knows we never launch if there is any concern over safety. Is all this a pain in the ass. You bet. Is it necessary? You bet. We are not in open territory like other sections of the nation. We live in a densely populated area that sees a lot of air traffic. We live in an area that was used as a base for terrorist attacks and as such the areas officials are very, very, very, very cautious.

It is that simple.

I feel your pain. I went through a similar situation in getting the AMA field re-opened to HPR. We also have some rules that have to be enforced but are not popular with some flyers. I haven'tposted them here because doing so would lead to the same sort of response that you are getting. The bottom line is that we are flying HPR where it was previously banned. That's a good thing...

What, the field owners asked you to have all those rules as a condition of use? Some of the rules make sense in that context (such as the bit about being responsible for filling in any holes, for example - one would certainly want to leave the property in good condition) but what's up with the requirement for a level 2 certification to fly an F motor?

Did the field owners specifically request _that_ stipulation?
