1/72 scale DC-4 / C-54

Our 2005 model exhibition will be on the DC-3 and we need to start and finish with the DC-2 (easy) and the DC-4 (not quite so easy).... so, has anybody got (1) a source for a good set of 1/72 (preferably) plans to tackle the Heller DC-6 with... (not easy, but possible) or (2) a Rareplanes vacform they would like to part with (perhaps a bit easier). Ideas, suggestions, comments (sensible ones please....(:>) all welcome...

Take this for what it's worth, but there is a very persistent rumor on airliner modeling digest that Revell Germany will release a DC-4 before long. Curt

You'd also need to shorten the wingtips and replace the engines and cowlings.

I have seen mention of this article. Does anyone have an exact reference, or even better, a copy to hand. Ditto an article in SAM..... Any advance on checking out bobsairdoc for the drawings. He lists several sets. Any opinions on them? I am sure the rumour about the Revell Germany one will prove to be true, but only after I have done my model.... and if I don't do the model, it will never come out. (:>) Ed

The FSM article on the Northstar is in the Mar 93 issue, but a better article on building the C-54 is in the IPMS Journal Vol 5 # 3. Ironically also Mar,

  1. Between the two you should have the best reference on converting the C-118/DC-6 airframe to the C-54/DC-4 airframe.

Much thanks Mr CB - I may have the FSM issue in my collection. No chance for the IPMS journal though. Any chance of a photocopy from anyone. Happy to refund costs in $ or in kind. Regards - Ed

Send me your address and I will copy it and send it to you. I could also try and scan it, though I don't know how well that would come out.
