North Pittsburgh Scale Modeling Club

Is there anyone in the North Pittsburgh area interested in starting up a scale modeling club? I've been kicking around the idea for the last year or so, and I think it's something I'd like to do. I realize there is the IPMS Three Rivers club (who put on a VERY nice show last spring) but I do not want to drive for an hour to a meeting. If you're interested, drop me a line.

Jim - I am a former member of the Three Rivers IPMS and also of the Beaver Valley IPMS, now with Charlotte Scale Modelers (Charlotte NC).

When I was with the TRIPMS group, we moved the meeting place 4 times. Because of the geography of the 'Burgh no place is good for everyone. That being said, I rather doubt that you will find a lot of support for a new group until the main unit gets very large. I have seen this happen before - new groups start, siphon off members from the original group, everyone is small (witness Beaver Valley) and eventually it all collapses.

When I first joined Beaver Valley I lived in Moon and joined them because my reserve drill schedule was usually the first weekend of the month (when Three Rivers meets). When I changed reserve units I went to TRIPMS because they were a bigger group and by then I had moved to Mt Lebanon, so Monroeville was just as inconvenient as Alliquippa.

Both groups have a great bunch of modelers and I urge you to support one of them. I really don't think three IPMS groups in Pittsburgh will be a good thing.
