OT - Time for the UK to leave the EU?

As some of you may be aware the latest "crisis" in Europe stems form an ideological difference of opinion that has been brought to a head by the constitution. The French think it's too "Anglo Saxon" (e.g. free markets, labour flexibility, etc) whilst the UK refuses to pay for the ineffiecient and wasteful "European social model" (e.g. social security, restrictive and protectionist labour markets, etc).

Given that continental Europe has a completely different social model, economic outlook and executive rationale than the UK, but that the USA, Canada, Australia, etc have social models that, given the common historical starting point, share Britain's (e.g. language, independent judiciary, progressive and liberal markets, etc) is it time for the UK to leave the EU and align ourselves with the rest of the "Anglo-Saxon" world and leave the Europeans to their federalist experiment?

You spelled it wrong.

My $0.02:

I get the sense that part of the motivation of the continental countries is that if they all belong to the same government entity that they will not have a reason to make war on each other as they had been doing with a good deal of regularity up until the mid 1900s. What the Brussels Proto- facists have apparently neglected is that cultural and nationalistic differences will still create tensions (witness the French wanting to tell everyone the right way to do things) unless you suppress those differences as the Soviets did. Or perhaps not. Anyone get a look at the European "Constitution" or as I like to call it the New Manifesto.

In nay case I think the French are far less mature culturally and politically than they believe themselves to be. And the Germans are still schizophrenic over who they were 60 years ago. They are almost guaranteed to be back where they were if they do not confront it and fight it directly. A little hard to take seriously a government afraid of swastikas on models whilst allowing the Red Star and the Hinomaru and the Facisti. And a united Europe will only make domination by Neo facist groups that much easier. They won't have to invade other countries just assume power and then decalre themselves the new boss of bosses.

The former Easter/Soviet block "client" states don't really want to have traded one dictator for another. Despite their desire for economic growth I don't think they want to give away political control to some distant capitol.

And what of the Turks? Talk about a turd in the swimming pool. France is already on the road to disappearing as a Western Culture due to thier idiotic immigration policies. Now they want to allow a country to be a member that would be an even bigger and easier gateway for an essentially third world, 13th century culture to overrun them? Hah! The French problem is going to solve itself in probably no more than 30 years. Of course the problem that replaces it will be worse.

Leave the EU? I would blow the tunnels and put patrol boats in the channel create a new Fighter Command.

Leave? RUN! Run as fast as you can. But see if you can ship your own socialist dickheads to France before you do. I hate what they are doing to a once great people.

Has Ha Ha !!! ROFLMAO

Somehow I don't think they will want to leave.

Those who preach socialism the most, are the one's who have no real interest in being physical part of it.

If the French get overrun again, this time by the Turks, they'll surrender again. And when it happens, we aren't going to come over and save them this time. Let Jacques Chirac take care of it. ;~)

No, it's time for you and your partner, Mr Hall to remake the great "Trap Door" tv series with Berk, Boney and Rog.

the "Anglo-Saxon"

Yep. Now if they could only convince their Kiwi and Canuck cousins to join the rest of the Anglosphere as well...

Perhaps you were simply fretting over the possibility that the EU would make you drive on the right side of the road? That would be a perversely gallic notion, eh? :-)

If off-topic posts bother you why did you open one that was clearly marked as such??

I think during the transition period it would be a good time to stay off the streets.

Thanks - it's posted here because OT posts of a political nature "tend" to get a resonable sensible debate.

I realise that bashing France is a favourite pastime in some circles, but in this context it is utterly unappropriate. This very issue is what had large numbers of French rejecting the EU 'constitution', and it was French, not Dutch, rejection that held the EU superstate back for a while at least. Please do not confuse disagreement with US policy with lack of fighting spirit.

Bill Woodier a exprimé avec précision :

Bill, I know there are morron sometimes there, but I didn't thought you are like them... Please talk about what you know... and you not know enough this problem to speatch about it correctly... And if you want to play to call us surrenders onre more time, I certainly will be very unpleasant... and I would like to stay polite...

Thanks

Chris,

I just want to take moment to chime in with my perspective on this thread. I have always held the belief that the reason both Americans and the French seem to relish in bashing each other is very simple. Both nations are too much alike. Neither nation likes to be told what to do, and both really don't care what the world thinks of them. Unfortunately, when situations arise where our nations can't agree on a course of action, the less flexible people from both nations start with the childish personal attacks instead of just having civil discussions and moving on.

France and America have traditionally been very close allies and have accomplished much together, but we will never see eye to eye on every issue. That is usually when the "you are either with us or one of them" type rhetoric starts and then degenerates from there to the more common French surrendering/cowards bellicosity. I'm not sure what derogitory comment are hurled at the US by the French, but in any case it denegrates the lives and lost lives of both nations soldiers who fought towards common goals.

Sadly, I feel we (the US) are only one disagreement away with the British before the same sort of anti-British rhetoric will begin. Most likely to happen when Blair is gone and a more liberal PM takes over.

Gray Ghost's "witness the French wanting to tell everyone the right way to do things" comment was a priceless pot calling the kettle black moment. Now back the the finsh of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Just my opinion,

Dan

I actually disagree with this, but what the hey...

Madison was ready to declare war on the french, and they have been relatively anti US for a very long time.

And with they way they are going after the UK over the farm subsidy, and other eu problems will make sure that whatever govt is in power in England, they will be far more happy to be aligned with the USA than france..............
