Ruined Decal

I was examining two of my unassembled kits the other day.



One of the kits is an ERTL NASCAR Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Monte Carlo. While I was taking the parts out of the box the manual & the decal sheet was at the bottom with the decal inserted in between the folded manual. I found out that one of the larger decals stuck to the manual. When I tried to part them the shiny 'elastic' coating over the decal was ruined because part of it stuck to the manual. The decal that was affected was the one that goes to the roof of the car so I really can't say that when and if I'm done with this kit it can't be noticed coz it will be.



Is there any hope for this? :(

If the "ink" part is still on the decal paper, you could try to coat that with Microscale Liquid Decal film. That will create a new "shiny 'elastic' coating" layer. It can be brushed on and it self-levels.

This is sort of strange as in most decals the clear part is on the bottom of the decal and the inks are on top. But maybe Revell decals are done differently.

Suprising indeed. When I touched the sheet it was kind of sticky. It can't be possible that it melted because I stored in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.

Are replacement decals easily available? If not, before you do anything else, run what's left of the sheet through a scanner. That way, if further tinkering fails, you will at least have something to base a custom printed replacement set on.
