Twelve Squared Gnat 750 (UAV) model ??

I spotted a Gnat 750 UAV model in one of the extensive photo reports of the IPMS USA Nationals. The Gnat is a sort-of predecessor of the RQ-1 Predator. According to the entry sheet on which the model was placed, this model was produced by Twelve Squared. But I cannot find anything on it on the internet! And Twelve Squared appears to be out of business. Does anyone know more? Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen or heard of anything new from the gentleman behind Twelve Squared in several years. At one time I had several of his products but they've been dispersed since. They appeared to be of good quality but took some modelling skill to get the desired results. I believe this was a one-man organisation. The kits I had were the Northrop X-4, the McDonnell XF-85 and the conversion kit for the 1/144 Backfire. The latter converted the then current -B model into a -C. Minicraft changed the tooling on the original kit and made the conversion kit superfluous. Kits were made in a softish grey plastic, somewhat like a Heller kit.

Twelve Squared has been out of business for quite a few years. My last contact with the guy who ran the company was around 1998. I have about

5 or so of his kits left. Twelve Squared specialized >I spotted a Gnat 750 UAV model in one of the extensive photo reports of

I agree, the 12 Squared models are always non-mainstream, and that what makes them interesting.

Talking about Firebees, I built an AQM-34 website over the last two years (URL below).

Thanks for confirming the existence of the kit! I couldn't find any trace of it on the internet. At least I know now that it was produced.

The existence of any kit in 1/72 scale is easilly confirmed with a subscription to ESM 72.

We covered the Twelve Squared kit in Vol.1 with all rockets, missiles and spacecraft about nine years ago. Back issues are all available. All listings are updated whenever new information comes in. To date we have databased and listed 483 kits and models of rockets, missiles and spacecraft in 1/72 scale or close with lots of illustrations.

Subscription information on request.

Always happy to answer internet inquiries about what has been produced. Drop me a line.

Happy modeling,

Tom
