Yes, that's it: "Johnny got his gun." I knew that Johnny was in there somewhere. You're rignt, the book was a tough read but the subject made it worthwile. It came to me more as a tribute to those incapacitated by that war and the quiet, and often solitary, bravery those men exhibited.

I also liked "Mr Roberts." Realizing it was a comedy or sorts, I liked the way it highlighted the daily monotony of those serving in the combat theater but relegated to rear-area support duty. I thought Henry Fonda, Jack Lemon, and James Cagney all gave exceptional performances.

No HMV, but the local video chain stores (Blockbuster and VideoEzy) are pretty good with ordering stuff - as long as you talk to the managers, who know a bit about the industry, not the pretty little schoolies, who know jack about anything (but they sure are easy on the eyes... heheheh)

The insult is squarely aimed at Gibson and his use of brutality and violence inextremis to get his point accross.
It certainly has had an effect on people. That includes several cases of signs on churchesto the effect of "The Jews Killed Jesus and Now It is Proven", etc.
I'm a Protestant. I am ashamed of these people and of the acceptance of this trash as Christian teaching.

Only true if the people reject the current trend by the current party in power to insert Christian identity into government.
The attitude of "we are religious, all others are second class" is becoming prevelant. The weakness of some people's faith often prompts them to attempt trampling on the rights of those who do not agree with their particular faith.
It is particularly "un-Christian".

Actually, it probably wasn't bloody "enough", IMO. I was rather surprised at how little bodily damage was depicted...especially after the establishing shot of the scourge ripping splinters out of a wooden table. other than that I have to believe it was a good, historically based account and depiction of the events.
I was heartily offended by The Patriot just on the grounds that it sucked in general.

The one good thing about "U-571" is that I thinked it stirred up enough outrage that they made "Enigma" in response. While it doesn't have much really to do with the actual code breaking operations, I do thank them for making what has become a favorite movie of mine.
I like Gibson OK enough, but after Braveheart I think he has largely "Jumped the Shark". He was so GD awful in "We Were Soldiers" I wanted to cry.
