Heljan 47 on DCC

Hi,
I have just bought my first Heljan 47 in OO and intend to run it on DCC
with a four function decoder.
Has anyone here adapted it so the tail lights are on a separate function ? I
have only briefly lifted the lid, so I have not investigated further. Any
help- beforehand would be great...
