Where can I find a Class 08 to use as a prototype

Hi

Where can I find a Class 08 to use as a prototype.

I am building my first 2mm kit a Class 08, does anyone know of an 08 working or otherwise in South East England ?

I need a prototype as the kit can, as far as I can see, model any 08.

Information often changes.

08691 was previously believed to have been at Felixstowe, but was seen yesterday at Southampton Maritime:

Did you know that Graham Farish have recently announced that they are going to produce a brand new version of their O8 shunter?

No, it will presumably be N scale:

Is there not normally one at Hoo Junction and Tonbridge, or am I well out of date?

ask on there. The subscribers keep a pretty up-to-date record of the locations of all shunters on the network.

Hoo Junction was always difficult to see from public places. Tonbridge duty disappeared years ago.

I can't actually think of a single location in the South East (and I only think of a few in the whole country) where you could guarantee to find one stabled close to a public place. How things have changed even in the last 10 years.

I think a preserved line may be the OPs best bet.

Just looking at some of the replies, and indeed the original question, and I'm amazed that the 08 seems to have virtually disappeared. You used to be able to see them everywhere. What do the railways use to do shunting now then?

I guess there's nothing left to shunt! Block freight and glorifed DMU/EMU's.....

I had to laugh at those calling Radio 2 yesterday about the truckers protest demanding freight go by rail. It can't - the infrastructure has all gone, and about as likely to come back as the Government stopping spelling "environment" T A X.

Ilford depot has one that you can see from the train and down south Eastleigh have some.

I'm working on the assumption that the OP needs to be able to get close enough to study the detail and / or take photos in which case Ilford is no good. Eastleigh (and Southampton Freightliner Terrminal) are certainly possibilities but I don't count that area as the South East!.

It always annoys me when they class Hampshire as the south east but some people think it is so that is why I mentioned it. Not sure if you can see Stewarts Lane depot but I saw an 08 there whilst on train coming out of Waterloo Friday.
