I have been reading this thread and have a question. If you have a good key and fob, do you need the car to be there to make another key correctly?

a chip key? as long as you got a good one to read and copy-dont need the car.. the remote? fob? DOES require existing remotes to add the second.. IIRR --Shiva--

Meanwhile though, the computers came back up at the dealership, the kid retrieved the codes he needed and had a key made. The situation has been resolved and I've learned a few things about newer theft deterrent systems. I'm not sure I want to mess with airbags, at all.

that was not really one of the newer theft deterrent systems.
if its taken you more than one hour ? problems are already being encountered.
