I can't get a protoolkit (protk.dat) to load automatically no matter which dir I put it in nor with protkdat option. I always have to use aux apps, register and start the file. What am I doing wrong?

I am having a hell of a time trying to get toolkit apps to autostart. I've tried every method the userguide suggests. The apps work when I load them manually.
Is there some other setting I need to change to load these apps? I've tried putting protk.dat in the startup dir, setting the config option 'protkdat' to the file name and location, and more.
