Hi I am making the Academy F89J and was wondering if the instructions had the interior colour right for the cockpit. The instructions say to use ADC grey which they also quote for the exterior which I agree with, but surely around the 50's and 60's most cockpits were black??

The cockpit interior should be Dark Gull Gray FS36231 but you might want to lighten it up a bit in 1/72. Definitely not as light as ADC gray, though!
