I have a personal theory that 1 year of war equals 100 years of bitterness, it seems to me that the (in this area) British model was superior to the USA/Confederate model (I cant speak for other nations as I dont know how they sorted the problem out.), we live on the results of the work of others, let us hope that our heritage, the one we pass on is as good as the one we have inherited. In Sweden the political parties came together for the good of the nation, in Finland it was a result of a series of savage wars with the Soviet Union, which they against all odds managed to win, in Norway it was the result of Nazi ocupation and the rebuilding of that nation from the ground up, these days it is because they use their oil revenues for the good of the nation. Duhh - we're a particularly advanced nation in the field of agricultural technology. We can claim a good number of "firsts" in industrial technology such as the first to fly a powered heavier than air aircraft and the first to split the atom.
We're rather more advanced than the USa in that field - first modern democracy to give women the vote. No difference in rights and treatment of races since

I trust you can accept an honest answer? The ultimate quality of our health care is much the same as in the USa, with the exception that we are a small country so some specialist areas are "thin" or even non-existant. We do of course have the option of getting those services elsewhere. There are waiting lists for some surgical procedures, variously described as "reasonable" or "excessive" depending on the individual's standpoint. The existance of the "free hospital care" system does not of course stop anyone from joining a private health care system, so if one is unhappy with the public system there are alternatives. If the public system were bad then the private system would obviously gain share or vice versa then the private system would lose share or die. Seems to me the balance is about right here.

While we're a little nation, we have all the access to other nation's experiences and data and we aren't saddled with the US's arrogance of assuming we're the best in the world so we learn and improve. (with the odd right turn every few elections)
