I am first and foremost a Christian and from that a socialist of the Digger school if you want a history to look at :) The fact is that most europeans are quite prepared for taxation and wont shoot or maim their politicians (on the whole!!) for taxes, it is the difference between europe and the USA over what is fair taxation that is the discussion point. Whilst I may grumble about my taxes and even as a sick pensioner I pay them, I do not want them abolished, because , I know that there are needy people who require help and this is the most efficient method of their getting it. Thanks ....so am I :D

Ouch!

After I got all put back together and rehabilitated, I

Here in Sweden I get 80% of my salary and yes I pay taxes on that too :D

My opinion is that it should be paid for th way it is, after all if a nation can force me to go to war for them they can atleast do this thing for me.

The fact is that in every nation in europe that has a national health scheme there is not one of them that demands that you go to a certain place for health care, there is in every one of thm a private sector, and oddly enough the ONLY difference between it and the government run system is speed re operations. yes it is :) but fun anyway and worthwhile learning about :)

You call this socialism. The Romans called it bread and circus.

'Fair' taxation' is not the expectation that someone else will top off your trough, nor is there charity or Christian merit in having your earnings confiscated by administrative authority and distributed according to someone else's standards.

Morality and ethical behavior should have been taught to you by your parents, not compelled by your government.

The same applies to the U.S., perhaps more so.

Just goes to show - There is still hope for life 'up North'!

I have spent many happy 'short breaks' up in the hills and mountains. What a magnificent place to see! I plan to live there when I retire, if the 'locals' will have me!

. We tend not to throw people to lions to watch them being eaten alive. If a nation expects its young people to die in its defence then it is reasonable that the nation makes sure that they live healthily and free from illness and disease and poverty. otherwise what is the point of education?

As a Theologian I will gladly debate you on Christianity and what is and what is not Christianity , but dont you think that we have enough bunny trails at the moment?

Mine did, however what if your parents dont have that in their baggage? who will teach the youngest generation, if for nothing else than self preservation.... But I do agree with you :)

Yes, our local heart hospital is full of doctors from India. They seem to like to stay in the US because of the high amount of money they can make from the USA insurance ripoff artist. Jerry

Well, with the behavior of the Bush 2 Administration I keep expecting Bush to announce that they're hiring him as a consultant to director of Homeland security.

He certainly has the qualifications they seem to be looking for. :-)

A Government run medical system isn't expected to make a profit. The public medical system is cost driven, not (frightened) customer expectation driven. The public system should be at least 20% cheaper, more likely 50% cheaper.

A medical system which doesn't permit a profit has no incentive to innovate. It must rely on advances in technologies made in more robust economic systems that do allow some profit incentive. So, in your case, the cost of medical care is shifted to other countries altogether. Congratulations, I guess.
