I make no such assumption. All I require is that our hospitals are capable of handling the majority of medical problems efficiently and at a reasonable rate.
That's your assumption.
No BS.
No, our government is less socialist than the US's.
You seem to accept a very poor standard (3rd world) of Government - why?
and you're _not_ ideologically slanted?
I just made a statement of fact on the condition and situation with hospitals in this country - the state of my mental faculties has nothing to do with that. Your personal comment reflects directly on you.
R&D doesn't come out of "profits", it is properly budgeted for and therefore happens both continually and when it is required, not just at times when profits are being achieved.
A bottom line that is being demonstrated is that US citizens apparently do not trust their government and do not believe that that situation is fixable.

"Brought home" as in "bring home the bacon" - that was his take home pay.
US soldiers are NOT illiterate! Field Manuals are written for a 5th grade education (TRUTH!), well after (most) people can read.
You live in a country where the government provides (AND YOU EXPECT IT TO) the majority of health services. Just what is your definition of "socialism"? Wake up and smell the maple nut crunch, my friend.
I've just seen (our) government operated hospitals at close range, and have seen the inefficiencies of governments at all levels, in a variety of countries (not including New Zealand, however).
Never said I wasn't; you implied you weren't.
And just where do those budget dollars come form, Greg? Do you just fire up the copy machine down there?
Greg, I thought you said you would stop the off topic squabbling for now. Did you not?
Someone has to make the first move to help restore order to the group. All this has gotten way out of hand and is serving no purpose whatever. It isn't even making the participants "feel better" AFAIK.
We know that there are issues. We must also know that positively nothing whatever can be done to reconcile those issues on this board. Help me and the others to get us a break from all this rancor and vitriol.
Thanx.................F>
Most, dare I say all, medical R&D comes out of universities, and or pharmacuital companies, not hospitals.

In the States, most rx development is undertaken privately. Some is done in university labs but underwritten by pharmaceutical companies with patents in consideration. Strictly 'medical,' or clinical or pathological research and advancement typically occurs in teaching hospitals, again often underwritten by private companies. In the U.S., teaching hospitals are usually affiliated with a university. The universities, in turn, are heavily reliant upon the corporations for their funding.
Don't knock it; it works. Ask the thousands of people from around the world who come to Massachusetts General or Johns Hopkins every year for treatments they can't get at home.
The only thing that will satisfy ME is the Last Word, and it will be the most Outrageous, Inflammatory and Devastatingly Abusive Word I can devise!
So there.
Well, if that's what it takes to put a stop to the venom spitting, I am fully willing to let you have it. Hopefully the others will too. So now, take it, and give it your best, most forceful volley, because, hopefully it won't generate any replies.
Adieu................F>
