Weekend events (again!)

As Stoke Row a few weeks ago was such a pleasant drive a couple of weeks ago, I thought I might give the nearby Woodcote rally a go in preference to Burford this year - any comments on quality/quantity of engine display?

Suddenly Woodcote seems even more attractive ;-)

Seriously though, Helen is not keen on Burford as it offers little in the way of distraction for her. And it is a bit of an M40/A40 flog, whereas getting to Stoke Row (only a few miles from Woodcote) the other week was a pleasant drive in the country.

We shall see.

Was driving through Burford on Sunday and saw a sign which said "Steam Rally, Shipton Burford.

Too much traffic to slow down see telephone number.

Exactly where is it held in Burford?

Been trying Google tonight, unable to find website or info yet.

Cheers

its on the A361 from Burford to Chipping Norton road if you are coming from Burford its on your right

Shipton Burford.

It's outside the village just off the road to Chipping Norton (A361) on your right about 2 miles out of Burford. I think it's the B4437, but you can't miss the site from the A361. At the slanted cross-roads take a right going north or left coming south. You are almost at the top of the hills there and a lovely view all round.

Burford itself gets very busy in the village, so if you can come south from Chipping Norton that can be a better route.

Nick,

Start praying mate, yesterday in Sheffield I fell off a pavement and thought nothing of it. Today I have flown to Edinburgh, driven to Dundee and back to Edinburgh and then waited around for my flight home. My right ankle has slowly got worse to the point that I now cannot walk without pain, the weekend is not looking good. :-(( I'm taking pain killers and using frozen bags of peas as well.

Shipton Burford.

Thanks Nick and Peter,

I'm in a campsite on Friday and Saturday just outside Bourton on the Water, leaving Sunday so this will not be far from where we are staying at the weekend.

Hi Nick, If you go to Woodcote could you look out for a Boulton & Paul generator. A chap who lives fairly close by was going to enter it some time ago. Wouldn't mind a pic or two and eng. numbers if you would be so kind. Thanks in advance, Dave.

I'll look out for it if we end up there.

Serial number 155, pics sent off-list.

Nice rally if a bit short on engines - 30 listed in program plus a couple more dotted around attached to dragsaws and the like. Particularly good on cars - enough to have separate classes for vintage/veteran and classic. Also of course plenty of hot fog - apparently the largest gathering of Sentinel steam wagons for some while and yes, I did watch them go round the ring! I was rendered potless within about ten minutes of walking in having snapped up a 'Little Wonder' model (see Adrian ???'s Engineers Emporium site) for substantially less than the price of the casting set! But Helen was kind enough to sub me for the rest of the day (she is far more positively disposed toward nicely presented little model engines than rusty great lumps of iron).

Hello Nick, Many thanks for your time and sending the pictures. I've started collecting engine model and serial numbers just to see how many are left. Regards, Dave Carter.
