Bachmann announce GWR City of Truro

Yes, the Peco stuff is based on the 25 kV AC system which is totally different to 1500v DC catenary.

Mine arrived too. The NRM seem to have overcome the delays and hitches experienced with the "Deltic" and only a few days after hearing about the new model it is in operation on my layout. Well done to all concerned.

Yes it is expensive but what the hell -it is Christmas!

I wonder if we can expect another 4-4-0 in pre grouping livery which originated in Gorton??

That Christmas bit has put me in a bit of a dilemma. Rang up my Sister and asked what the Nephew wants for Christmas ,he has got to that awkward pre teenage bit where cash is more useful than pure toys. Can then purchase what he actually wants such as large a Lego model by accumulating present cash with saved pocket money etc. He only has a train set on a modest board but has a lot of stock ,most of my old Tri-ang stuff plus his own. However he saw City of Truro recently and has heard about the NRM model. Sister asked what the chances of getting one in time for Christmas would be. Felt a right sod saying the chances were slim ,especially as I was looking at my newly arrived one at the time. Nope it's too good for a Child he will have to make his own out of Lego. gave him about 30ft of lego track 5 years ago, time he used it again.

You'd better watch out that they don't discover that you've got one. You could be nice, and pack yours up and give it to him, ordering yourself a new one.

Tell them hes not quite ready for something so detailed and delicate. Then hope that more are produced at a lower price. If youre quick, Rails have very cheap railroad 9F's. Good sturdy runner, never guess that its cost so little.

Oh, me too. Me too. and all.

And a small Sharps goods (ditto) to follow.

The only remaining question is: rebuilt or primaeval form?

I want either a RTR 2Bil (even better, a 4Cor or 6Pul/Pan...) or, for another project, a RTR LNER L1. Well one can dream...

I'll settle for a winning EuroMillions lottery ticket (on a tripple roll- over of course) - then I can have anything, including a controlling interest in the company!

Youre right its gone to far out to be likely, lets get back to reality. We need something group or pre-group thats famous for something special and in the NRM. Hardwicke !

115 years since epic Race to the North.

/Actually/, that would make for a good - and potentially very useful - series:

Hardwicke NER 1621 GNR 1..

.. and then perhaps follow on with NER 910 and 1463, L&NW Cornwall (the Problems, which worked the 1888 racing trains, are long gone, but Cornwall worked in the same link as them), plus CR 123 reworked to current standards.

We have an interesting theme developing here, especially as some of these types had very long active careers (Renewed Precedents, NER Fletchers and Tennants, NER Ms) often on very modellable routes (Fletchers and Tennants were staples of the Stainmoor line for years, Precedents in the north Lakes..).

Actually, these types would be much more suitable for most modelling: small engines, short trains.. much easier fit into most spaces, but still express engines past a doubt.

I have to agree with the 4Cor - it eould go very well with Hornby's Maunsell coaches.

The 2Bil is from the grouping era, it's also in the NRM collection! :~P

Thompson or the Robinson GC one (reclassified B18)? If the former, other than the split chassis (which Dad and I have never had a problem with due to not using DCC), what's wrong with the Bachmann one? Ours has always been a lovely runner.

Hmm, not so sure about those. For Fletcher, standardisation was something that happened to other people... With a lot of his classes, it's almost as if he sent a rough sketch to the contractors and told them "build something a bit like this." 398 Class and BTPs are a good example of that.
