Bachmann Motor Types

Hi,

I have just fitted a Lenz silver decoder to my new Bachmann Standard 5 MT loco, no problems with the fitting and nice little plastic box provided for the decoder to sit in.

Now my question, Does anyone now the settings for CV 50 (motor type) for this and the following Bachmann locomotives:-

Standard 5MT Standard 4MT Tank Class 08 (New version)

As far as I can make out there are 5 motor type settings, 1-5, each with the ability to have feedback enabled or not.

Superb running from this decoder as standard fitting though, and the F3 function (shunting speed control) is outstanding, but would like to be able to fine tune the decoder to the motor.

All help appreciated, and a Happy New Year to all.

Eddie

Well, to answer that question you have put us to a lot of web searching on the Lenz website and the Lenz-dcc yahoo groups, work you could have done. The answer is that no-one knows, the only recommendation is to try the different CV50 values to see which works best with your motor. If as you indicated yours already works very well then any improvement is likely to be imperceptible, for a change to be noticeable it would be worse so doesn't seem worth the effort. IMHO The locos you ask about all have reasonably good modern motors which should be best suited by the decoders default setting, you are only likely to need to change it if you have an old dinosaurof a motor or the coreless (Portescap) types where the characteristics are very different. Just follow the advice in the Gold series manual, if you don't have a manual download it here

Happy New Year Keith

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the reply. The information in the Gold manual is more comprehensive than that supplied with the Silver which just suggests there are different motor types with optional motor settings available within the decoder using CV50. I did search on the Web for motor information, but did not realise that it was a trial and error thing. I assumed (ASS of U and ME) that there was a specific setting for a particular type motor, and as Bachmann did not seem to supply motor type specifications was asking if anyone knew the settings. I thank you for your efforts, but if you had pointed me in the right direction I would have done the necessary work. I was hoping that someone in the usegroup may have already looked for the appropriate settings and would have offerred their findings.

Happy New Year

Eddie.

Hey, I'm light. Well, in spirit anyway.

Unfortunately not physically.

You're reading too much into my reply, just offered my thanks and reasons for asking.

Eddie.
