Why will people in general realise that any attempt to 'take a grip' will simply not work. If someone wants to do something, then its virtually impossible to stop them with force! Just look at Palestine, Iraq etc. ... the Israeli government are certainly 'getting a grip' - building a massive wall, but is it working? NO. Force simply never works in the long term.

To get anyone to do anything you have to convince them they want to do it! Legitimately or by establishing hegemony through propoganda is irrelevant. The human will always prevails, you just have to mould the will! The only way to stop immigration would be to convince the immigrants they don't want to move - by helping their place of origin to become a more attractive place to stay in.

However, as discussed, immigration is economically and demographically beneficial for this country.

Fair point, not exactly fair on our friends in Spain, Turkey, Italy and Greece though is it really? I'm sure if, the source of immigrants was to the west as we were the first country to be 'hit' then all of you would be the first to ask our European partners to share the burden?

Well, I dont have much experience with different readers, having had a few years off from usenet until recently (except via google, which sucks), but pan does it, just press "Q" if theres too much quote text. Also highlights each layer of quotes in a different colour.

Dunno if you get it on windows though, but then I guess thats the superiority of open source for you :D

Dear John, This is one of the problems of discussing the ideas of historical figures! I think his infamous speech was mad nearly 40 years ago, if we call him racist on the basis of the ideas of today instead of trying to judge him by the ideas prevelant at the specific time, doing this would reduce other greater figures such as W.
