LMS Autocoaches

There are a lot of 4-4-0 and 0-4-4 tanks involved in push pull working, the LMS, LNER and SR all used 0-4-4s for this work. There will shortly be an SR M7 0-4-4 in N (Dapol, using part of the mechanism from their 0-4-2T 14xx). How does the M7 compare in size to the LMS and LNER engines? Just wondering if it might be an idea to suggest using the chassis for a conversion but all my reference books are currently (and for a fair while yet) in storage.

Ah well you live and learn. Precisely where was Low Level in relation to the current Bank Quay station please?

The message from "John Turner" contains these words:

As you approach WBQ along Wilson Patten St. from Bridge Foot (the long straight road), the LL station is on your left as you go down towards the entrance to BQ. Alternatively, and this might make more sense: leave the present BQ station and turn right as you go through the door. The old station is directly in front of you, across the narrow road which goes under the WCML.

Thanks Dave, I'll check it out next time I'm at BQ.

There's a footbridge across the LL line parallel to the WCML - leads past the signal "box" and on to Foundry Road for the well-known photters' Arpley viewpoint of the "proper" LL signal box and the loco sidings.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but there has been an article on modelling LMS push-pull trains in Model Rail within the last couple of years. Brian

Probably, given the number of searches I've done on this subject. There are many photos of push-pull fitted locos which worked locally but few of the coaches.

Yes I missed it but from what I read in a later issue it was based on a couple of Comet kits but there's no mention on Comet's website of which particular coach patterms to use.

I'm sure if I trawled through 36 years' worth of KWVR "Push and Pull" magazines I'd find something, but it would be copyrighted, wouldn't it?

The article would be, but not the information contained in it.

Mike,

Just got back home for the weekend and had a look through the books. There are a couple of good pictures of the typical Midland motor train setup - a loco flanked by two motor driving coaches. One loco is the Midland 0-4-4T and the other is a Midland 0-6-0T.

If you drop me an email with your actual email address to my address in the headers I'll email back a scan of the picture.

Jim.
