You think? Here is my scenario: BATF shows up with the media in tow. Three ring circus ensues while the "dangerous, quiet type" with a house full of explosives is placed under arrest. Meanwhile, journalists interview the neighbors about the crazy living in their midst. Ties to extremist groups or terrorism are postulated. Experts in the field are brought out of retirement and trotted before us on TV. What judge is not going to make this danger to community, this "potential terrorist", face the scales of justice?

Of course, that is just what I see on the news at night. But what I see does not give me hope regarding what you say. :-(

Go for it. Put your money where your mouth is instead of talking the talk on RMR.

Call the ATF Monday morning.

Guy was busted near Phoenix for a large weapons cache and possibly dealing (IIRC). Big photo of the ATF take covering the table with weapons. A few kind readers were thoughtful enough to point out that many of the items in the photo were marked "inert" including some obviously fake hand grenades which can be purchased at any gun show.

I'm sure he'll be remembered in the community for the page 5 follow up story over the front page monkey show the day before.

That is the type of situation to which I was referring. People today are condemned in the media to "make news", it seems, and true justice takes a back seat.

Question is to what extent the courts are actually influenced by such media circuses... hopefully "condemned in the media" doesn't have much traction with the bench.

No, the whole point is it doesn't matter what happens in court. You'll be broke from defending yourself and possibly out of work/outcast. Imagine if you're a school teacher and end up on the front page like that. Bye bye...
