I hate web browser based forums. They are one of the very few things that wasn't improved upon when most things became browser based.

Personally, I like web based forums if only because most of them have more postings. The postings are also generally on topic since thereJ are moderators at the helm on most. rec.outdoors.rv-travel gets a few hundred posts a day, but 75% or more are off topic. RV.NET gets 5,000 posts a day with very few off topic posts.

Most 'new' adopters of the Internet never had a chance to use Usenet. Many of the 'early' adopters have abandoned Usenet because many groups are a cesspool of a few idiots posting random crap. Sorta like RMR and Jerry Irvine, but many groups are much worse.

But what's worse are those folks that promote their forum, but only come to RMR to pee in our sandbox.

The moderation of the forum is irrelevant to its format. A forum doesn't have to be web-based to be moderated. The problem with web-based forums is the interface, which is usually clunky and slow. If they stuck with a simple, text-only format they'd work a lot better.

Who has time to read, or even skim through, 5000 posts a day???

I raised this issue in a previous posting ... are Jerry's supporters ignorant of Jerry Irvine, or are they part of the scam?

Its just tough out there when it comes to buying/selling in this hobby. I guess the same percentage of criminals are in other hobbies, but with model rocketeers in such smaller numbers, one individual can cause damage to greater number of people/percentage.

I was reading postings about empirerockets on rocketryforum.com and I am looking to get his kits, but will wait until there is a reputible dealer that actually has them in stock before I buy. Should empirerockets keep the behavoir going, I will just ingore his products all together. According to dozens of postings, empire is very Jerry-like when it comes to their dealings with the public. I am following this thread very closely.

But, how many Usenet groups are moderated? The few that are moderated often have dictators for moderators who have driven away all the posters and readers.

No one. RV.net is broken up into 15 or 20 seperate forums so you only need to read what you are interested. RV.net is 100 times more useful than rec.outdoors.rv-travel.
