April squadron flyer, finally!

Hi Troops:

Well, I finally received an April Flyer. I think Squadron needs an editor, On page 2 Roden's 1/48 scale Viper engined SE.5 is listed at $26.09. On page 5 the same kit is listed at $17.96, $8+ difference. I notice they have the Italerii 1/48 scale JAS39A "Gripen" kit listed. I've never had a chance to look at this one, has anyone out there seen the kit and how is it?

It's the danged heat. We tied a record here yesterday, going all the way back to 1920: 96 friggin' degrees!

Went to the website tonight. April is ~finally~ downloaded. However the MiniArt Studio 1:16 French knight is still a no-show (despite being in the flyer) and the same scale Burgundian knight doesn't reflect the sale price. Maybe I'll phone them tomorrow.......

Caught that too. Noticed the 1 1/2 strutters going for $26 when the shops have them for $18.

There's also the blurb about the Me262 being the first jet warplane in service when the Meteor beat it by a month or two.

Into service; the Meteor entered service with Fighter Command's 616 Squadron July 1944, while the Me 262 went into service with Kommando Nowotny 4 months later. They were downing V-1's in August.

Yeah they've needed a good editor for a long time.

Hmmnn...which gets me back to the question of which was in the air first. Records are curious things - you have to be specific.

...and then someone will inevitably attempt to re-write them.

Some googling shows the Meteors first flight on March 5,1943,and first deliveries to 616 squadron on July 12 1944,first action on July 27 against the V-1s. Me 262 first flight with a prop on April 18,1941,and under jet power on July 18 1942.Service entry is listed as August 1944 on one site, and "3 weeks before the Meteor" on another. The 262 is tops of my lists of favorites so I may actually have to make an order to squadron, even though lately the catalog has been wanting.

Yup. I've been going back and fourth over buying the big one from Trumpeter. Looks like a great kit...but I'm trying to do all my WWII "German firsts" subjects in 1/48, and I already have a Tamiya example...or two?..

..oh, well...one more 1/32 kit onto the pile.
