Registry problem

I installed SW2004 at home tonight to try out before taking to plunge at work.

So far, I am having a problem getting it to remember my settings when I exit. Each time I restart SW, I get license agreement screen and then the pop up start menu.

When I open a file, no tool bars are turned on. I can set them up how I want, but as soon as I exit. its back to square one.

Ideas?

WinXP Pro SP1

Antivirus was not active during install.

What version of software did you install - student version or something maybe? Is there maybe some sort of network license it's looking for each time? I can't say that I've ever seen this, and really don't have any good ideas. Sorry.

Its the regular SW2004 version.

I attempted to do a "clean install" by getting rid of all of the old SW references in and out of the registry.

I did notice that it automatically generated a reg cod for me instead of asking for one like I expected. Does that mean I didn't get everything out. It seems like I must have missed something for it to do this.

It was installed using the WI, no network license or anything like that. It seems to work fine, other than remembering that I have already run the program.

This is all in an attempt to get Floworks installed and running properly. Using the downloaded FW package and a flexlm license, FW will load, but gives an error about not being able to write user preferences file. The end reult is that FW works, but 95% of the text is missing from the dialogue boxes.

My clean install of SW is in hopes of clearing this up.

dear Cam

Maybe your personal account has not the rigth to write in the registry. So may have install SW2004 under root and you are going to work with under an differnet account.

Did you enter your reg code? Or if you are upgrading, is your reg code upgraded?

I don't know why it happened, but I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled again, and everything works this time. I got the license agreement once and it has not been back.

One thing I do not understand is why it automatically generates a reg code for me as if I was upgrading even though I had deleted all references to SW (including registry entities). I would expect it to see this as a new install and ask me for the code. Is their some other logice to the reg code that I am not aware of? Does SW hide something else somewhere that it knows to look for at install?

Moral of the story: Two reinstalls later, and the problems are mysteriously gone.
