SolidWorks - Registry problem

Oct 28, 2005 2 Replies

Anyone seen this one. With SW 2005 when starting the program a window apears stating "Failed to update the system registry. Please try using REGEDIT" The window appears 3 times then the SW boots up and works with no problem :(

This started just recently.

TIA for any help.

I googled for this. The common thread seems to be that the user does not have sufficient rights to write to the registry. Are you on a domain with roaming profiles or do you have just user or power user rights? Do you have an over zealous IT department?

Thanks TOP

I didn't even think to look it up thinking it was such an obscure and SW related problem. But apparently it is more widespread than that. I really appreciate your effort. Strangely, no domain, no IT dept. and I am the only admin on this machine. Everything was working fine untill a few days ago.

I had done some registry clean up, unsuccessful installs and an uninstall and reinstall of SW so something in the registry could have gotten fouled up. Since everything works, I'll keep playing with it and maybe try a win XP repair after another few weeks.
