New Brassmasters kit

Well the Jinty is still to come and that's LMS - but according to Pat Hammond's website the LMS 43xxx 2-6-0 and the LNER K3 2-6-0 are next in for Bachmann's steam loco designers.

I'm looking forward to the Jinty, but I'm even more pleased about the Mucky Duck. I scratchbuilt one a couple of years ago. I built it from plans that had been emailed to me, but sadly I didn't size the plans correctly when I printed them out. I only discovered this after I'd given the model its first coat of paint. I reckon it is pretty much 3.75mm scale!

But what about the new *Brassmasters* kit ?!? :-)

I can't really think of an LMS subject that isn't already available in some form or other. I can't imagine that it will be a pre-grouping subject, as Brassmasters are discontinuing their LNWR series.

Personally I'd like a really nice 3F 0-6-0 tender loco, but would settle for Hornby re-tooling the 4F 0-6-0. The ex-Airfix 4F is pretty awful and the tender drive is *crap*.

I understand the 4F is a real possibility.

The Hornby 4F that I had seemed to have digital control. It was either "on" or "off" ! :-)

The engine body was quite nice, so I put it on a Comet chassis and added detail and bunged a Comet Fowler tender behind it. It's really nice now!

I don't know if I'm pleased about this or not. There are already at least two 4F kits available, from Alan Gibson and South East Finecast. All the Brassmasters kits that I've built have been a joy to build, but it seems a shame that Brassmasters are (might be?) going into direct competition with established kits (and the Gibson kit is excellent - incidentally, Gibson also do a 3F, again an excellent kit). Still, I suppose Brassmasters know what they are doing.

Hornby and Bachman will soon be in direct competition with their GWR Manors. Is competition a good thing in the model railway world? Is the model railway market robust enough to take this form of competition?

Granges. It was going to be head-to-head with Granges, though apparently Hornby might have dropped their plans for such (apparently Bachmann's is more or less a certainty, though that is only rumour, of course)

I think the obvious 4mm kit for anyone to pursue is the "Coronation", more commonly "Duchess".

I would sincerely like to be corrected when I say there is no accurate model of this type to be obtained, other than scratch building (well beyond my skills).

If Mr.Finney or Mr.Gibson were to do one, I'd be banging on their doors.

I really can't understand why this, to me obvious, gap in available kits has never been filled.

I have three DJH Duchess' made up from their kits, perfect in every way.

I have one DJH Duchess, modified to full working valvegear - something I doubt Brassmasters will offer - and it is also perfect. Brassmasters would be better to look at some pre-group models, the LMS is pretty well covered these days.

According to my 1959 Combined Volume, the Princess class is locos 46200-46212 the Coronation class is locos 46220-46257

The Princess class is so-called because most of its members are named after princesses; the Coronation class is named after the name of the first locomotive of the class.

But then, of course, I'm a South Wales railways person, so I know nothing.
