A modest proposal... or Jerry Irvine saves the Universe

Yes.

Nope. Self deregulation is our ONLY hope. The ONE thing neither NAR nor TRA has even lifted a finger to try and it's FREE!

He got a bill before congress and had NAR NOT hired a specialist, it likely would have slipped in under the radar in an omnibus bill. NAR thought it needed more attention by various people. They seem to have been wrong.

JW hasn't spent a dime of our money

TRA/NAR OTOH has paid Kyte big bucks to do his job. Big bucks that came from *our* member dues, yours and mine!

it is reasonable to expect a report when you see your money spent on a hired gun

once again. Ray, you are comparing apples and watermelons

it is not irrelevant that we paid for John Kyte out of our dues, and has no accountability for what he produced for the money

nice try at a diversion, Ray. Look at the damage your mentors have done so far; I don't see the rationale in giving you yet more information

suffice it to say that whatever JW has done thusfar remains a work in progress

but here was my 2003-12-02 22:19:42 PST post in thread "Re: NAR Speculations (was Re: action: stirring the pot)" at

formatting link
where I iterated some of JW's visible contributions:

=== first I'd like to note that all of John's efforts and accomplishments have been inclusive of all rocketeers regardless of organizational affiliation. Getting everyone information about what was happening and giving them information about how they can participate did not require there membership in anything.

here are some examples

- JW was personally involved in the content and wordcraft of S.724 content, as introduced

- he recognized the need, and initiated the call, for virtually every letter / fax / phone call campaign to Senators and Representatives. TRA/NAR announcements to members trailed John's initiatives

- he maintained and continues to maintain the congress and arsanews webpages,

formatting link
which many rocketeers rely on for timely information, including links to Senator Enzi's press releases, speech texts and sound clips. Important announcements to these sites were propagated to over 20 rocketry forums and mailing lists, so that all rocketeers would remain informed.

- he acted in an advisory capacity to ARSA volunteers creating and maintaining a website designed to facilitate media coverage of the rocketry regulation crises,

formatting link
as well as to facilitate rocketeers access to national and local news articles and TV coverage. It featured a 'whats new' subscription for anyone wanting to be kept abrest of content changes, as well as a 'submission' page for any rocketeer to contribute. The BATFE themselves were astonished at how organized the effort was, remarking that "we must have someone helping us".

- he personally responded substantively to DOJ/BATFE misinformation intended to derail S.724 (as introduced) in the Senate Judiciary Committee, and justify substitution with the Hatch-Kohl version.

all of these were visible, and acknowledgements, email and posts of appreciation came from rocketeers nationwide ===

then add the S.724 co-sponsors to that

now, what did we get for money we actually *paid* John Kyte ?

In other words, there's no results yet. Is that so hard to admit?

It's not a diversion to ask for a fair comparison. You insist on belittling Kyte's work but refuse to show us how Wickman's efforts are any better.

As I have explained here and in other places before, the NAR Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible and accountable for how financial resources are allocated into member programs.

I, on behalf of the Board, have communicated the results of our service program offerings, including periodic financial summaries, to the membership. I'll be doing so again at the NARCON in March.

The vast majority of NAR members recognized the benefits of the allocations of funds, and have indicated their support to me and the rest of the Board via multiple channels.

Mark already covered this. Kyte is accountable to the BoT, the BoT is accountable to the membership. If you don't like that, vote them out of office. I don't recall seeing your name on the ballot. Just because you are a dues paying member doesn't mean you can personally direct the BoT. If you don't feel that the BoT is using your money wisely, stop sending them money.

There goes Iz redirecting again. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain". That man has no plan.

But a work which he is afraid to disclose so if (when) he screws up again it will be more private this time.

OK, give him that. I've asked this before. How did JW get eclipsed by Kyte in dealing with the Senate? How did he allow this?

Someone must be helping to feed us FUD and incorrect information. The Memorial day warnings, for example. The repeated lies that NAR/TRA introduced the 0.9lb limit (refuted publicly in this forum by at least two BoT members).

And the direct result was what? I responded substantively to my Senators also. I didn't post it on a website but I did respond. Wow.

Thank you Mark for being the only leader of a national organization brave enough to post in this hostile forum. I invite the others to stand up and follow your lead.

In general terms and avoiding specific questions raised at NARCON. I know. I was at the one in San Diego and raised questions. I was the only "member" in the room whose questions were not addressed and answered.

I agree the vast majority of members are sheeple.

You have trouble confusing everything and anything he or I or many other people say. You have a learning disability. That is not a criticism. It is a wake-up call.

My "learning disability" is that I keep getting pulled into these stupid threads. My New Year's resolution was to only post on technical issues and to avoid even reading political rants. When will I learn? Jerry and Iz (if they really are two different people and not just different personalities of the same person, quite possibly with JW keeping them company) will never agree with my political view. Quite frankly I'll probably never adopt theirs.

So to completely hijack this thread... The K240h dilemma is partially solved. I determined that building the 5.5" diameter rocket I wanted to would be marginally over my weight budget. So I'm going with 4" diameter (which I have plenty of). I'll spend a little extra weight on flutter proofing the fins so that if/when I do get that HT L motor it will work just fine.

I recommend that we rise up against these endless (and futile) political battles and redirect every political thread to a technical one. I warn you, I have a glue question ready and I'm not afraid to use it!
