Sounds like a great time! But Steggie and Gibbons in the same room? Scary stuff. Back then Ballentine was a great beer, Schlitz was named right, and the old Schaefer recipe was a great summertime brew. Valley Forge is one I've never heard of. Bud and Miller are only popular to the nascar peoples a round here.

Well, there's a perfectly good reason for that.
While it's true that the taste comes through much better at a higher temp, over here we often are exposed to much hotter climates than over there, and are thus desirous of colder beverages.
A good example of the difference is that we serve most of our chilled drinks with ice, while they use very little or none over there.
But they have a climate moderated by the gulf stream - it rarely gets too hot or too cold. Whereas there are many parts of the US where the average January temp and the average August temp differ by 100* F. Conversely, they have much narrower extremes (typically). Yet when they do have the rare heatwave, the situation becomes critical. France had a Chicago heat wave this summer and 3000 people died.

Another reason that ice is not served in Europe is that the water supply has not been such that one could drink it straight from the tap. Thus ice was not made. If one used bottled water then ice became too expensive. Also the British had Lucas refrigaration and everyone know that Lucas electics only work sometime. Ask anyone who has owned a BSA or Triumph motorcycle or MG or Triumph car.

.......and I thought they served ice in your drinks over here because ice was cheaper than the product they were displacing. I never get ice in anything already cold, I want my money's worth. I don't really want to chew my drinks.......if it's warm and needs ice to cool it down we're talking a different scenario.
